How do daily check ins work?

A question I’ve gotten recently… what are daily check ins and how do they work?
Daily check ins with a grief coach are an opportunity to give yourself a little structure and an outlet for your grief during the chaos that comes with loss. Losing a loved one changes so many, if not all, aspects of life, often even who you are fundamentally. It can affect you to your core, changing your daily activities, your calendar, your relationships, your finances, the day to day logistics of every day life, and your future plans. Grief changes everything. Profound loss touches every part of your life, and you’re often unprepared for it.
Family and friends are available, but sometimes it feels burdensome to lean on them. This is where a grief coach comes in. A grief coach is someone who never tires of hearing about the hole in your heart, someone who can hold space for you while you process, someone to listen compassionately with no timeline in mind.
A daily check in with me gives you an outlet to share what’s on your heart or mind that day, as it relates to your grieving (isn’t everything related to grieving?)
The daily contact can be initiated by either you or me (your preference) and I am here to listen. The check ins can occur via text, phone or zoom, and are generally a short exchange lasting 5-20 minuets per day, depending on how you’re feeling and what you’d like to talk about. I can offer some experience, strength, and hope, as well as relate to a painful grieving process as a grieving mother myself, and I can suggest grounding techniques as you process your loss.
What are some differences between a grief therapist or grief counselor and a grief coach? As a certified grief coach, I am able to offer support, guidance and compassionate listening; I do not diagnose, treat mental disorders, complex trauma, or provide clinical treatment. I offer present-day practical support and gentle guidance and help moving forward at your own pace. I can suggest coping tools and explore meaning and purpose with you, and help normalize the grief you are experiencing. Grief is not linear and not something that can be fixed. It is something we must learn to live with, to build a new life around.
Please contact me at allie@groundedgriefcoaching.com with any questions about how the daily check ins work, or any interest in working with me to help process your grief in any capacity. I am available for 30-60 minutes stand alone coaching sessions as well.
